Every year during the last month of the Islamic calendar, millions of Muslims from the world over converge in Makkah. They come for one reason: the religious duty to observe the fifth pillar of Islam. This act of obedience is required of all Muslim adults who are physically and financially able to make the journey.

Similar to Hajj, Umrah is any pilgrimage to Makkah undertaken outside the 8th through 13th days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. This “lesser pilgrimage” does not fulfill a follower’s obligations, but is still considered a highly commendable act.

Hajj for Kids
Children are welcome to accompany their parents on this journey, though Hajj is rightfully an adult obligation. Parents are advised to protect kids from dehydration, direct sun and overwhelming crowds.
